I have been listening to many people who are concerned about the York River Damn at Baptiste Lake. The ministry of natural resources have looked at the damn. Even though I have not seen a report Bancroft is safe from extreme flooding. Why just take a trip north of the damn. There is a natural damn that will control the flow of water. Bancroft may get wet but the flow of water is naturally regulated. Bancroft councilors and ministry personal, please take a look. The old damn from the 1940's is still there and is a safe guard.
I am not saying the damn doesn't need repair or even replacement. It needs some attention. But do not panic this spring. Control the water before you have to floods the town again. Some of the flooding could have been reduce last year if officials knew to act sooner and followed the protocol they finally enacted. They did a good job under pressure. This type of planning was not considered in the past.
The council and ministry have it under control.
Hats off to them all.
